About Alighted

Alighted is an independent educational reference about UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We explain where inscribed places are, how and when they were inscribed, and why they are considered outstanding — factually and objectively, without promoting travel packages or the buying and selling of antiquities.

What we cover

Each entry is a short dossier with a quick fact table (country, region, year inscribed, type, key features) followed by seven plain-language sections. We describe cultural sites, natural sites and mixed sites, and we treat places of worship as cultural heritage rather than as religious promotion.

How we work

Entries are researched and written by the Alighted editorial team from widely known, public facts. They are meant as a starting point for understanding, not as professional, legal or financial advice. We keep descriptions neutral and do not take sides on contested heritage or ownership claims.
